The Barça forward (18) is clear of Mbappe (17) and Liverpool's Salah (16)

Lionel Messi returned to the top of the race for the Golden Shoe after his goal in Barcelona's 3-1 win over Leganes on Sunday.

The Barça forward, a second half substitute on the night, scored his 18th league goal of the season, moving back ahead of Kylian Mbappe, who'd drawn level with him on Saturday with hat-trick in Paris Saint-Germain's 9-0 win over Guingamp.

Messi did not start game but still find time to respond to the French striker, as well as Liverpool's Mo Salah, who scored two against Crystal Palace this weekend. The Egyptian now has 16 league goals this season.

The Argentine is La Liga's top scorer ahead of Luis Suarez, who with his strike against Leganes now has 15.

Elsewhere, Messi has six goals in the Champions League and one more in the Copa del Rey. In total, he has scored 25 goals this season.

In all competitions, Messi's ahead of Mbappe by four and Salah by six. However, only league goals count in the Golden Shoe, which Messi's won in each of the last two seasons.
