The Argentine star has a current market value of around 180 million euros

The latest CIES study suggests Tottenham's Harry Kane is the most expensive footballer in the world, with a value of 201.2 million euros.

Kane, 24, has a contract with Spurs until 2022 and is the only player in the study to top the 200 million mark. On the podium he is joined by Paris Saint-Germain duo Neymar (195.7 million) and Kylian Mbappe (186.5 million).

One of the most surprising pieces of data is the difference between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi's the fourth most expensive player at 184.2 million, while Ronaldo is 24th with a value of 103.4 million.

That's a difference of more than 80 million, presumably because of their ages: Messi is 30 and Ronaldo is 33.

Antoine Griezmann, meanwhile, is eighth with a price of 164.5 million. Philippe Coutinho (154.6 million) is 12th and Luis Suarez (120 million) is 18th. Ter Stegen (100.5 million) is just behind Ronaldo in 25th place.

The first Spanish player on the list is Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez (100.5 million) followed by Morata (91.2 million) and Marco Asensio (88.7 million).
