Medical report: Barcelona confirm Umtiti to miss next two months
The French defender tore his hamstring in the draw with Celta
Thomas Vermaelen and Gerard Pique are the only fit centre-backs
Two hours after the conclusion of Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo, the club confirmed Samuel Umtiti will be out for the next two months.
Umtiti pulled up with a hamstring tear while racing Iago Aspas for the ball, with Celta equalising seconds later due to the gap in Barça's defence.
A brief statement from the Catalan club read: "The draw against Celta brought some bad news for Barça in the form of injury.
"Tests carried out have confirmed that Samuel Umtiti has a hamstring injury in his right leg and he is expected to be out for around eight weeks.
"The French defender was injured in the 70th minute when he was chasing Iago Aspas in the build up to Celta’s second goal.
"Umtiti will now miss the rest of 2017 and January of next year."
Without doubt, it's a huge blow for Ernesto Valverde, who will be without the French defender for around 14 games, including the Clasico against Real Madrid on Dec. 23.
