Matheus Fernandes demands €15 million from Barça after being released

The Brazilian midfielder claims he is owed this amount, which corresponds to the three years he had left on his deal

FC Barcelona announced precisely one week ago that they were going to terminate the contract of Matheus Fernandes due to his poor performances since signing for the club. Having only played 17 minutes for the first team, Matheus didn't get close to the levels that Barça were expecting of him. As such, the club decided to unilaterally terminate his deal.

However, neither the player or his entourage have taken this decision well, and are currently planning to sue the club for his unfair dismissal, as originally reported on Cadena SER's 'Què t'hi jugues'. According to SPORT sources, Matheus Fernandes is going to ask Barça for 15 million euros, with this corresponding to the amount he was due to earn over the course of the three years that he had left on his deal.

The player and his representatives feel that this is a case of unfair dismissal, and are willing to fight their case until the player is paid the money he is owed. Matheus Fernandes is one of the strangest signings in recent years for the Catalan club.

The Brazilian centre midfielder signed in January 2020, and was loaned straight out to Valladolid without even being presented as a Barça player. He barely featured during this initial loan spell, and spent last season barely getting picked for Barcelona, only getting 17 minutes of game time in an inconsequential Champions League tie.
