The left-back has an option to extend the deal by an additional season

Barcelona have finally confirmed that Marcos Alonso has joined the club on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Chelsea.

Alonso, SPORT have learned, has signed a one-year deal at Camp Nou with the option for another year, although Barça have not revealed the terms for the second year to kick in.

"Barcelona and Marcos Alonso have reached an agreement to sign the player after he terminated his contract with Chelsea Football Club," a statement from the Catalan club read on Friday.

"The defender will sign a contract until 30 June 2023 and the buyout clause has been set at 50 million euros."

Alonso said: "I have been in talks with Barça on several occasions throughout my career. Now I am here at last.

"I'm very happy and looking forward to starting. The only team that was ever in my head was Barça. This is the next stage of my career and I can't wait."

Alonso's father also played for Barça, representing the club between 1982 and 1987.

“It is very special to play for the team where my father was such a success" he added.

"That's another important reason to be here. I remember when he brought me to see games at Camp Nou, so to be here now is incredible."
