The reasons Marcos Alonso chose Chelsea over FC Barcelona
The defender opted for the London club instead of a move to the Spanish champions
Marcos Alonso, who signed for Chelsea, was in Barcelona's orbit this summer. He preferred a move to the English side than to Camp Nou, despite his father, a former Barcelona player, hoping he would join the Spanish champions.
Jouralist Javier Gomez Matallanas explained in Diario AS why he joined the Blues. He says that, as a player who grew up in Real Madrid's youth team, his madridismo (his grandfather Marquitos won the European Cup with Los Blancos) prevented him from moving to Barcelona and instead opted for Chelsea.
FC Barcelona considered him a good option this summer because as well as being a good left-back he can also play in the middle.
