The Spanish left back is expected to sign a new contract at Chelsea within the next few days and reject the opportunity to return 'home'

Spanish international, Marcos Alonso, has spoken to 'AS' and told them that the conversations with Chelsea to renew his contract are "very advanced". As such, this means Alonso won't be joining FC Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid next summer. All three sides declared an interest in the left back should he have decided to seek pastures new.

Alonso said he's "very calm and very happy at Chelsea" and that the club clearly feels the same way about him as they offered him a new contract despite having two years left to run on his existing deal.

In fact, his contract renewel is imminent and could be made official in the next few days. "The conversations are advanced and, if everything goes well, I believe I'll sign a new deal before the end of this month."

The Chelsea man did speak about the three players he could have potentially replaced should he have moved back to LaLiga. Alson said that despite their ages - 33 (Filipe Luis), 30 (Marcelo) and 29 (Jordi Alba) - their clubs should be calm as "all three are very good left backs".

"In the modern game, I'm not sure 30 is old in football. The fitness side, the coaching, the diets and sports medicine have evolved a lot. This means players are able to perform at a high level up until they're 35."
