Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the clubs chasing the Dortmund striker

Erling Haaland's future continues to be the focus of speculation, especially since the striker revealed that when he leaves Borussia Dortmund he will do so to play in Spain. Real Madrid or Barcelona?

Both clubs are working on their strategies to sign the Norway international, who's the most coveted player in the world along with Kylian Mbappe.

According to Marca, Barça and Madrid now know that Haaland has set a deadline of Jan. 31 to make a decision on his future beyond the end of this season.

The Madrid-based newspaper report that Los Blancos "have a great financial situation and are capable of affording the operation without any problems."

The report continued: "Despite there being no agreement with the player nor with Dortmund, it's true they have spoken with both parties, but those in charge at Madrid are still studying the way to do the operation keeping their feet on the ground. There's a dialogue with (agent Mino) Raiola, but no agreement."

The good 'feeling' between Barça president Joan Laporta and Raiola tips the balance in the Catalan club's favour, although their financial situation tilts it back to Madrid.

Dortmund want to know as soon as possible what Haaland's plans are to they can plan accordingly. That's where the Jan. 31 deadline has come from.
