Marca: Griezmann tells Atletico Madrid he won't train on Sunday

The France forward does not understand Atletico's reaction to Barça interest

Marca have revealed that Antoine Griezmann has told Atletico Madrid he will not turn up for training on Sunday and has communicated his "sadness and personal disappointment" at how events have unfolded.

The same report adds that "it was the club themselves that asked Griezmann to communicate to them as soon as possible if he decided to leave Atletico, so they could plan during the summer and make signings. The French player (now without the No.7 at Atletico) followed that instruction to leave the club in a friendly way."

It also reveals that "in a meeting between Griezmann and [Atletico's] Andrea Berta, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Diego Simeone in which the player communicated he was leaving, the latter told him he would help his departure in any way possible. 'You have made history at Atletico,' he said. All good words."

Atletico released a statement on Friday demanding Griezmann return to training and claiming he had agreed to join for Barcelona in March. They also voiced their fury at Barça for how they have handled the pursuit. You can read the full statement here

The statement came after Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed there had been a meeting between the two clubs on Thursday regarding a deal for the forward.
