The in-demand Dutch director of football said: "I'm not going to leave Ajax this year"

Ajax are seeing a lot of their big stars linked with moves away from the club this summer and, away from the pitch, it's the same story. Marc Overmars has been mentioned as a possible addition at two of his former sides: Barça and Arsenal.

In an interview with Dutch newspaper 'AD', Overmars was directly asked about taking up a similar role with Arsenal or FC Barcelona this summer. "What I can say about that is I'm very happy here at Ajax. We've established a system and stuck to it. So, in that regard, I can definitely say I won't be leaving this year."

Overmars has been rumoured as a replacement for Barça's under-fire sporting manager Pep Segura.

The Ajax man admitted the losses of Frenkie de Jong (Barcelona) and Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) mean it will be difficult for the club to match last season's success. "You can't replace guys like de Jong and de Ligt. Now they've gone, our level could drop a little. The team must adapt to that and play a little differently. Marin isn't Frenkie de Jong."

Overmars is happy with the money brought in for the two stars but doesn't want anyone else to leave if it can be avoided. "We don't want to lose him (Donny Van de Beek) and hope he'll stay for another season."
