The two goalkeepers face each other on Tuesday at Camp Nou

Barcelona vs Bayern Munich is not just a chance for revenge after that 8-2, but also a battle between two of the best goalkeepers in the world. They share German nationality - Bayern’s Manuel Neuer and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Neuer is the Germany stopper and that is evident when you see Ter Stegen only has 25 caps, despite his quality. He pulled out of the Euros to have a knee operation at the end of last season, with Neuer still the No 1.

Ter Stegen has only played in one tournament, really, the 2017 Confederations Cup, which germany won under Joachim Loew. Neuer was injured. He has been the No 1 since 2010, playing at three World Cup and three Euros, winning the former in Brazil and playing 106 times. He’s 35.

Both keepers have a lot of character and had a public dispute in 2018. Neuer was the keeper ahead of the Russia World Cup.

Ter Stegen already had walked into Barca sporting director Robert Fernandez’s office and said he wanted to leave if he was not made No 1 ahead of Claudio Bravo.

Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s president, lashed out at Ter Stegen, saying “Neuer can play five more years and Ter Stegen will have a grey beard”.

Ter Stegen is just back after his operation to face his old foe, who will be in goal for Germany at the Qatar World Cup, bar any surprises. But Ter Stegen is 29, his time may come.
