Marc-Andre ter Stegen wore the captain's armband against Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Tuesday, the first time he's done so since signing for the club in 2014. The absence of the three captains from the line-up, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, left the German next in line for the role.
Other players like Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto would also be more probably picks for it but they were on the bench or not in the squd as well.
The German delivered with a fine performance, although this time he could not earn Barca the win. After the game he celebrated getting the armband on social media. "A huge pride," he wrote on Twitter.
