Ten Hag asks his club to make every effort towards the signing of the Dutchman

The pressure keeps mounting for Frenkie de Jong. His departure from Barça is by no means a closed case, and both Manchester United and Barça are hoping that the player will finally give in and accept an exit, by reaching a beneficial agreement with all parties concerned. The English club has already warned the player's entourage that it will wait until the last day of the summer market and that, for now, it does not plan to pursue an alternative plan, as explained by the 'Mirror'.

United's coach, Erik ten Hag, has asked his club to make every last effort to bring him the player he sees as key to be able to challenge for top four. Ten Hag is in constant contact with the player and believes that there are options to sign him, but that everything is blocked by the contractual terms that De Jong has agreed to with Barça, because of the deferral of his salary during the Covid crisis. This season De Jong would be receiving a full salary as per his contract, one that is unaffordable for the Spanish club. They need to finalize his departure due to the constraints on their wage bill. Manchester United also sees the salary as excessive but is willing to compensate him with a five-year proposal during which the club would recover all the money it is set to pay him.

Little by little an agreement can be reached, although the figures still do not add up, a fact that is making the player more reluctant. Barça already told De Jong that they have accepted a transfer proposal from United and that they expect him to reach an agreement as well. The Dutchman communicated that he did not wish to leave this summer, but his entourage has not completely closed the doors and continues to negotiate. The Blaugrana club has opted to take him on tour because the operation is not sufficiently mature, but could opt for making arrangements from their end, even financially, for the whole deal to come to fruition.
