The caretaker did enough to earn the job on a full time basis in just 19 games

Mancheter United, Barcelona's opponents in the Champions League quarterfinals, have confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new permament manager.

The former United striker took over as caretaker coach in December when Jose Mourinho was sacked. Since then, the Red Devils have won 14 of their 19 games in all competitions, progressing in Europe and getting themselves back into the race for the top four in the Premier League.

“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,” Solskjaer told the club's website. “It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far.

'This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.”

The highlight of his reign so far was the comeback win against PSG in Paris. After losing 2-0 at Old Trafford, United won 3-1 at the Parc des Princes to reach the last eight of the Champions League on away goals.
