According to Calciomercato, both clubs are keen to sign the Croatian in January

Manchester United and Milan are, in principle, the European clubs best positioned to sign Ivan Rakitic if he leaves FC Barcelona in January, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

The English club and the Italian club have had the Croatian midfielder on their radars for a while, but the latest reports suggest Barça are finally open to letting him go. Both sides have started to make their moves to convince the player they're the best option.

Rakitic has made it clear that he's not happy with a backup role at Barça and he already had offers to leave Camp Nou in the summer. He says he will consider leaving in the winter if things don't change.

The player, who returned to training on Tuesday following international duty, has gone from being a regular to fifth choice under Ernesto Valverde this season. He's played from the start just once.
