Man City & Man Utd on alert after Oscar Grau's Lionel Messi comments

English press say the two Premier League clubs are watching how the situation develops

The comments made by Barcelona CEO Oscar Grau about the club's plans for Lionel Messi's contract renewal have set alarms off at Europe's biggest clubs.

His quotes about having to "keep a cool head and not lose common sense" when negotiating Messi's new terms have been interpreted as a rift between the Catalan club and the Argentine star.

The Engliush press assure on Thursday that both Manchester City and Manchester United are monitoring the developing situation and working on strategies to get close to Messi.

According to The Sun, Pep Guardiola's side would pay 120 million euros to tempt the Catalan club to sell, while they'd be offer up to one million euros a week to the player himself.

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United are also keeping an eye on how Barça and Messi's contract talks evolve.

The Portuguese coach has previously said he doesn't see Messi leaving the Blaugrana but after admitting Morgan Schneiderlin will leave United he said the objective is "to make a signing in attack" next summer.
