Real Madrid see the Dane as the long-term replacement for Modric

Another transfer battle on the horizon. If on Tuesday Italian and French media suggested Real Madrid and Barcelona would compete for Juventus midfielder Pjanic, now it seems they're both keen on Tottenham's Christian Eriksen as well.

According to Marca, Florentino Perez believes the Spurs midfielder could be a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, who will turn 33 in September.

The Croatian, who joined Madrid in 2012, is considered one of the most important parts of the club's recent success, but his age invites the thought that a replacement will be needed soon.

In this sense, Eriksen fits the profile, an idea Barça also had when it came to finding an heir for Andres Iniesta, who left the club for Japan this month after a glorious career.

However, signing Eriksen will not be easy for either of the two clubs. He is happy in London and the club, who have just renewed coach Mauricio Pochettino's contract, are working on a new deal to safeguard themselves against the outside interest.
