Luis Suarez's Barça offer and the chances of a Camp Nou return
The forward was keen to come back in January, even, but Barcelona will look elsewhere
Luis Suarez's contract with Atletico Madrid expires on June 30 and he's looking for a new deal elsewhere. The Uruguayan, one of the best strikers in Barça's history, offered to return to Camp Nou, according to the show 'El Chiringuito'.
SPORT have been able to confirm that is true and when it happened. It was during November last year, at the Ballon d'Or gala. Suarez spoke to president Joan Laporta there. Suarez was tasked with handing the trophy to his great friend Lionel Messi, who won it for the seventh time.
Suarez has lost importance in Diego Simeone's side. He even thought about a Barça return in the winter, when they were looking for a striker, and offered himself for the future. At the club, they make it clear that the possibility of Suarez coming back is not considered. They consider his time at Barça over and are looking at other objectives.
After leaving Barça in 2020, Suarez was key in Atletico Madrid's title triumph last season but his role has changed this term. That said, he has still scored 13 goals in 43 games, but he has often been a substitute and rarely completes 90 minutes. Despite that, Atletico, per Gerard Romero, have offered him a one-year renewal, although he's keen to look elsewhere.
At 35, Suarez, who scored 198 goals for Barça in 283 games, still believes he can play at the top level in Europe.
