Luis Enrique: The Melon d'Or? It's ridiculous to compare awards

The Barcelona boss says there's no-one like Messi regardless of individual prizes

Luis Enrique has looked back on 2016 in an interview Barça TV, praising his team's style and predicting more success in 2017.

Barcelona have released a snippet of the interview, with the full version to be shown on Barça TV on Christmas Eve.

“Winning titles has become routine” he said. “At Barça people have got used to it.

“We have to win titles. We play better than any other team, and we have the clearest ideas about our game. And over the course of a whole season, that brings returns.”

Luis Enrique also spoke about Lionel Messi and made it clear that he cannot me compared with anyone in the world -- past, present or future.

“Messi can play any position he wants,” Luis Enrique added. “It’s ridiculous that they’re comparing awards, the Melon d’Or or whatever they want to compare. It’s ridiculous.

“Not to take anything away or disrespect current players, I’m thinking about past players, too. There’s no room for comparisons.

“Don’t forget to compare Messi to players from many years ago. The level was far inferior physically then, players are more prepared today, stronger physically, skills wise, better coaches giving them more info. There will never be another player like him.”
