Luis Enrique defended the star after criticism for his comments about Real Madrid

The star was left out of Barcelona's squad for the trip to Granada with Lucho deciding to rest him

Luis Enrique came out in defence of Gerard Pique after his comments about Real Madrid’s values he made in midweek.

The coach said that it wasn’t important what he thinks about the matter. Luis Enrique said: “The good thing is the game he gives you. If Pique didn’t exist you would have to create him. I’m more radical than Pique so it’s better if I don’t say anything [about Madrid’s values].”

Pique was left out of the squad against Granada with Lucho explaining that he needed rest ahead of a busy April with nine matches, following two games for Spain in which he played the full 90 minutes.

“We are giving rest to a vital player for us,” said the coach. “He played all the minutes possible with the national team. In the face of what’s coming up, a calendar so dense, he needs to rest. It’s important to give rest to a crucial player.”
