Liverpool-Monaco: key meeting for the future of Coutinho

The English side are keen to sign Lemar before the transfer deadline

That would free Coutinho to complete his dream move to Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho's future is in the hands of Thomas Lemar. Or, better said, in the hands of the meeting which took place in Montecarlo between Liverpool and Monaco on Wednesday.

Even though Liverpool's message is 'Coutinho is not for sale', the reality is that their actions suggest otherwise. In recent days, they have pushed forward with a move for Monaco's Lemar and have agreed a deal to sign Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

If Liverpool, sign Lemar, who would cost around 90 million euros, Coutinho's move to Barça would become very likely. In fact, Jugen Klopp would be left with an 'overbooking' for certain positions in his squad if the Brazilian did not move on.

Therefore, Coutinho's people and Barça are waiting to see what happens in said meeting, hopeful that it will eventually lead to the end of one of the summer's longest transfer sagas.

If talks between Liverpool and Monaco don't go well, it will be difficult for Barça to do a deal for Coutinho. Instead, they would focus their efforts on Angel Di Maria and Lemar. And with few hours to get work done.
