Liverpool blocked the signings of Torres and Suárez, but ending up selling

The Spanish forward moved to Chelsea and the Uruguayan to Barcelona

Liverpool published an official statement saying they would not sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona or any other club, whatever happens. But there are some precedents which imply otherwise.

One of those was Luis Suarez, who ended up nowhere other than FC Barcelona. The Uruguayan was wanted by Arsenal in 2013 and Liverpool said on Twitter that he 'was not for sale. Liverpool supports Luis and hope he will honour his contract'.

In the end he stayed and renewed it to 2018, but then in the summer of 2014, he joined Barcelona. The deal was closed for 81.2 million euros.

With Fernando Torres, Liverpool said in the face of Chelsea's interest, "We insist, Torres is not for sale". However, Torres put in a transfer request and eventually sold him to the Blues for 58.8 million euros. The sixth most expensive transfer in the history of football - at the time.
