Lionel Messi puts on pressure in Golden Shoe race

Four forwards lead the way, but PSG star Neymar is now stranded

The race for the European Golden Shoe is more equal than ever after Leo Messi and Mo Salah both scored for Barcelona and Liverpool respectively this week.

In the case of Messi, his free-kick against Atletico took him to 24 for the season, level with Tottenham's Harry Kane, Salah and PSG's Edinson Cavani.

Both Kane and Cavani failed to find the net this week, but Salah did against Newcastle.

Ciro Immobile, who has 23, didn't net against Juve in a 1-0 defeat for Lazio, one of the few games that did take place before the rest of the week's matches were suspended after Fiorentina captain Davide Astori died.

Jonas, sixth, with 30 goals - but on 46 points in the rankings (Portuguese league goals are worth 1.5pts compared to 2 in the major leagues) - hit a hat-trick in Benfica's 5-0 win over Maritimo.

Luis Suarez is eighth with 20 goals.
