Lionel Messi on the return of Neymar and the challenge of Cristiano

The Argentine star was asked about various topics by Marca

Lionel Messi spoke on a variety of subjects in an interview with Marca. One of them was the potential return of Neymar to Barcelona, something he is not opposed to.

“I think it’s complicated. We would love for him to come back for what it would mean, as much as a player as for the dressing room,” said Messi.

“We are friends, we had great moments, other not so much, but we passed a lot of time together. However it looks very hard for him to leave Paris. PSG won’t let him quit.’

Messi rejected Cristiano Ronaldo’s proposal that he play in Serie A.

“I don’t need a change. I’m at the best team in the world. My challenges renew year on year. I don’t need to change team or league to find new objectives. I am in my home at the best club in the world and I don’t need to change.”

On Ronaldo leaving Madrid, he said: “At the start of the season I said that Real Madrid is a huge club, one of the best in the world with a lot of good players, but Cristiano would be missed at any team he had been at and then left.

“They miss him because he scored a lot of goals every season and gives you many other things on the pitch.

“It doesn’t surprise me that they miss him but that doesn’t stop Madrid being one of the best teams in the world with great players.

“This era that we were in the same league together in was beautiful. Cristiano was a great player for La Liga and Real Madrid and they were great battles, but I look at the same thing as always, which is my team, and winning things there, whether he’s here or not.

“It was a very healthy rivalry in which the two of us wanted to improve ourselves day in day out to do the best for our team. And I think that was good for the spectators.”
