Lionel Messi will not play against Real Betis. The Argentine did not participate in the final training session on Saturday and has not been named in Ernesto Valverde's squad.
Messi suffered a calf injury in pre-season and has not yet played a single minute since the Copa America. None of the five forwards from last year's squad are involved. Coutinho and Malcom are on loan, while Suarez, Dembele and Messi are all injured. Youth team players Carles Pérez and Ansu Fati have been picked.
