The Barca No 10 is having another brilliant season and leads the way

In case there was any doubt - Lionel Messi is still the most in-form forward in Europe after the first half of the 2018-19 season, looking at the top five leagues on the continent. That has been confirmed from the latest report by Esteve Calzada on Thursday from the Johan Cruyff Institute.

Barca’s top scorer has netted 17 in the league, no other player has more in any of the top five leagues. He’s followed by Luis Suarez on 15 and Cristiano Ronaldo on 14.

Messi is also the leader in assists, providing 11, ahead of Eden Hazard’s nine and Milan’s Suso, eight.

Curiously the best player in terms of minutes per goal is former Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer, on loan at Borussia Dortmund, who has a goal every 42 mins.

He’s followed by Kylian Mbappe of PSG, with a goal every 71 minutes. Messi is third with a goal every 81.

Juve, PSG, Liverpool and Dortmund are ahead of Barca in terms of percentage of points obtained after the first half of the season.

The Italians have 92.96% of all possible points, 53 out of 57. Barca have 75.43, the lowest for a leader of La Liga in the last eight seasons.
