Lionel Messi is the Champions League's hat-trick king
The Argentine scored his eighth treble in the competition against PSV
Leo Messi starred as the Champions League returned to Camp Nou, scoring a hat-trick as Barcelona beat PSV Eindhoven 4-0 on Tuesday. Messi opened the scoring with a free kick and scored two more late on after Ousmane Dembele's solo effort.
It's the eighth time Messi has scored a hat-trick in he Champions League 42nd since he made his first team debut for the club. The Rosario-born star's numbers are brutal. Curiously, it's the third hat-trick that he has scored in first game of the group phase. He also scored three goals in 2013-2014 against Ajax (4-0) and in 2016-2017 against Celtic (7-0).
No player has scored more hat-tricks than Messi in the competition. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored seven and plays for Juventus on Wednesday against Valencia.
