Lionel Messi, increasingly ahead in the Golden Shoe award
The Barca player's advantage is growing in the indvidual scoring rankings
Lionel Messi is heading towards his sixth European Golden Shoe award. The No 10 has 21 goals after his double against Valencia, taking him to 42 points. Six more than second place PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.
Messi leads the way, with Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus third, with 17 goals in Italy, 34 points.
There are just two La Liga players in the top 30 odd names. The second is Luis Suarez, who has 15 league goals and therefore 30 points. The next is Girona's Cristhian Stuani, 31st, with 12 goals and 24 points.
There are players who have scored more goals than Messi, like Nomme Kalju player Liliu, who has 31, and Zakaria Beglarishvili, of Flora Tallin, who has 30, both in Estonia. However they get only 1 point per goal, accounting for the low quality of the league.
In Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France goals are worth two. In countries between six and 22 in UEFA's rankings, 1.5, and the rest of the leagues, 1 point.
Messi has won the Golden Shoe in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018, five times. One more than Cristiano Ronaldo.
