Barcelona announced the deal months ago but Messi finally signed it on Saturday morning

Leo will stay at the club until June 2021 and has a eye-watering 700m euro release clause

Barcelona star Lionel Messi ended speculation around his future by signing the contract he previously agreed with the club, which keeps him at the Camp Nou until 2021.

Messi’s deal has a 700 million euro release clause and will take his stay at the club to 21 years after he joined as a 13 year old back in 2000.

The star agreed a deal with Barcelona in the summer but had not signed it himself until now, with the clock ticking down until the end of his previous deal which would have been in June, at the end of the season.

“Leo Messi has since gone on to break just about every record and has become the greatest player in history with a staggering numbers of goals, titles, records and individual and team awards,” said Barcelona in a statement.

The likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were hoping to lure him away from the Catalan capital but now those dreams have died.
