Lionel Messi beats Pele's goal record for Santos
He matched the Brazilian against Valencia and now has surged past
Leo Messi made history in Valladolid, becoming the top scoring player for any one club in the game’s history. He levelled Pele last weekend and on Tuesday night he finished past Jordi Masip to move onto 644 goals for Barcelona.
He looked for the goal during the game and was denied by his former team-mate Masip, but eventually it came with a great link up with Pedri. The youngster back heeled the ball to Messi, who finished well.
Pele managed 643 goals for Santos. Now 80, the legendary Brazilian made his Santos debut aged 15 in 1956 and left the club in 1974.
