Lionel Messi: Barcelona are the best team in the world and don't depend on one man

Leo Messi spoke on Thursday to the media as he unveiled his new boots and says Barcelona do not depend on him “because the best team in the world does not depend on just one player”.

Asked about Messidependencia, Messi turned away the praise. “Messidependencia? They have asked me about this more than one and I always answer the same way: Barcelona is the best team in the world and they do not depend on one player. We are a squad, an impressive group, and I have never thought we depend on one player.”

Messi was pleased with the win over Celtic, 2-0 in Glasgow with him scoring most goals. “It’s not the first time I’ve played there, the atmosphere is impressive,” he said. “It was what we were looking for,” he added of the result and qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.

On the clash with Real Sociedad, on Sunday, he said: “It will be a tricky game because la Real will demand a lot from us, for the team they have, because they are playing well and they have moved up the league, fighting to reach Europe.

“And it’s a stadium [Anoeta] where we have not won in years,” added Messi. “So we cannot be bad because we need to win the three points, seeing how the league is, four points behind Madrid.”

Messi presented his boots, Red Limit 16, at the Adidas event put on with 200 children and teenagers at the Fira de Montjuic. He opened the event by kicking a ball at a screen after turning up early.
