Leo Messi returns to Barcelona training ahead of Deportivo game

The Argentine took a giant step forward and is expected to be available at the weekend

Lionel Messi is back -- or at least he's one day closer to making his comeback in a Barcelona shirt.

The Argentine forward completed Wednesday's training session with the group and took a huge step towards receiving the all clear and returning to action.

Messi took part in 20 minutes of Tuesday's session with the rest of his team-mates, but on Wednesday he was more involved, with Saturday's clash against Deportivo La Coruna the target for a comeback. Barça then play Manchester City next Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was injured on Sep. 21 in the La Liga draw between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou. He's since been scrupulously following the steps of his recovery.

The first team medics diagnosed him with a groin problem and said he would be out of action for three weeks.

After a phase of intensive work with physiotherapist Roger Girones, the Argentine crack began to run again last week, working with Barcelona's fitness trainer Edu Pons.

With his return to group training, he now has the weekend's game against Depor and Pep Guardiola's City in his sights.
