Leo Messi reaches 20 La Liga goals for the ninth consecutive season
The Argentine is unrivalled when it comes to top flight goals in a Barcelona shirt -- or any shirt
Leo Messi remains without equals. As always. His relationship with goals is in tact. He has scored 20 in the league this season -- a feat he's now managed for nine consecutive seasons.
The Argentine exploded with Pep Guardiola's arrival on the Barça bench in 2008-09. Since then, la Pulga has regularly found the back of the net. Here are his numbers in Spain's top flight:
- Season 2008-09: 23 goals in 31 games (aveages of 0,74)
- Season 2009-10: 34 goals in 35 games (0,97)
- Season 2010-11: 31 goals in 33 games (0,93)
- Season 2011-12: 50 goals in 37 games (1,35)
- Season 2012-13: 46 goals in 32 games (1,43)
- Season 2013-14: 28 goals in 31 games (0,90)
- Season 2014-15: 43 goals in 28 games (1,53)
- Season 2015-16: 26 goals in 33 games (0,78)
- Season 2016-17: 20 goals in 21 games (0,95)
Messi has scored 332 goals in La Liga, shared out in the following way: 185 at Camp Nou and 147 on the road.
Meanwhile, he's just two goals away from 10 in the league at Camp Nou this season. Since 2009-10, he's always reached double figures in that statistic: 2009-10 (16 goals), 2010-11 (15), 2011-12 (35), 2012-13 (22), 2013-14 (16), 2014-15 (27), 2015-16 (16) and 2016-17 (8).
With 20 goals, he's the top scorer in Spain's top flight at the moment and the favourite to win the Pichichi. He's previously won the award in 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2012-13.
