Leo Messi vs Luis Suarez, a goal war between friends

The former team-mates are now striving for the top two teams in La Liga

There’s nothing strange about the top of the Spanish goalscoring charts. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are always up there. However, Suarez now plays for Atletico Madrid, not Barcelona.

It’s hard to believe Barca let him go for free. Suarez leads the rankings on 14 goals, while Messi is second on 12.

They shone together for Barcelona, neighbours, mate drinkers and best pals, but things changed this summer when Barca decided Suarez had to go.

The duo are still pals but now are doing battle instead of teeing each other up.

Suarez, at 34, is Europe’s most in-form forward and he has fit in perfectly at Atletico Madrid. They are 10 points clear of second place Barca at the top of the league.

Messi started slowly and is hitting better form now. He scored five in his last four games, meaning in the matches prior this season he only hit seven.

They are yet to come head to head, with Suarez missing the clash with Barcelona because of coronavirus. They will meet again on May 9…
