The forward will miss Saturday's trip to Eibar as Barça's campaign comes to an end

Lionel Messi was given permission to miss Barcelona training on Friday and will not be involved in the club's final game of the season at Eibar on Saturday.

Barça travel to Eibar with nothing to play for after a run of one win in five games saw their title hopes mathematically ended last weekend.

In addition to Messi, Pedri has also been given permission to miss the game on Sunday, while Marc ter Stegen, Sergi Roberto, Ansu Fati and Philippe Coutinho are missing with injuries.

Messi, therefore, will be able to enjoy a few days off before the Copa America this summer after a league campaign which ends with 30 goals in 35 games.

Barça said: "The Argentine Leo Messi has not trained on Friday with the coach's permission and he will not be in the squad for the game against Eibar on Saturday. The striker can enjoy a rest before next month's Copa América after a season in which he is one of the players in the squad who has played most.

"This season he has lifted the Copa del Rey and in his 47 appearances (35 in the league, six in the Champions League, five in the Copa del Rey and one in the Super Cup) he has scored 38 goals this season, and his 30 in the league mean he is virtually assured of an eight 'Pichichi' title as top scorer in La Liga."

Messi's contract expires next month but Barça are hopeful he will sign a renewal.
