Leo Messi celebrates his new record beating Pele

The Argentine forward published a post on social media network Instagram

Lionel Messi scored again days after equalling Pele’s record to move ahead of the Brazilian. His strike against Valladolid was his 644th goal for Barcelona, more than any player has scored for any one side. The No 10 celebrated by posting on Instagram about his achievement. Pele recently congratulated him on matching his tally of 643 for Santos.

“When I started to play football I never thought that I would break any records,” said Messi on Instagram. “And less the one that I have today that Pele had. I can only give thanks to all those who have helped me these years, my team-mates, my family, my friends and this who support me every day. A big hug!”

Messi has spoken to La Sexta in an interview which will come out on Sunday.
