Lenglet: What matters to me is what Dembele does on the pitch

The defender defended Dembele, who was late for training again on Sunday

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet says what Ousmane Dembele's doing on the pitch is more important than if he's late for training.

Dembele was late for Sunday's session and missed training in November, which saw him dropped against Betis.

"I've not spoken with my teammates about what happened," Lenglet said when asked for the players' view on Dembele's behaviour.

"I have not seen Ousmane because I was at home this morning and then I came here [to the press conference]. What matters to me is what Ousmane does on the pitch and he's doing really well.

"I think on the pitch Ousmane's doing really well, playing really good games. [You're] talking about non-sporting things, but when he's played he's played really well. A goal against Espanyol, an assist. He did well for him and for the team. That's what interests me at the moment.

"I don't know if performances on the pitch can cover everything but we are footballers at the end of the day, we're playing football, that's what's important. I understand journalists look at other things but for me, the most important is to see the games and see if he's doing well."

Asked if Dembele's tardiness should be punished, Lenglet added: "I don't know... You have to ask the people who have an opinion on that and who can do things when these things happen. I can't say what should happen, whether they should punish him or not."
