The club are looking into the possibility of signing Erling Haaland first

Barcelona's priority is to sign a new striker this summer and Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland is at the top of the list.

However, Barça's hierarchy are aware that of the difficulties of the operation, given the cost of any deal and the level of interest in the Norway international.

For that reason, the club are also exploring other options, with Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez the second option at the moment.

Barça worked on signing Martinez last summer but the deal was ruled out when the coronavirus pandemic hit given Inter's financial demands.

Contact has been fluid with his people since and Barça know that the Argentine wants to play at Camp Nou, especially is his compatriot Lionel Messi decides to stay.

Inter find themselves in a tough financial situation now, though, and need to sell one of their star players this summer.

Barça, therefore, are convinced the price would be much less than the €111 million release clause bandied about last year when a deal was on the table.

The only problem is that the signing doesn't generate a complete consensus between the club's hierarchy and coach Ronald Koeman.

Everyone agrees that Martinez is a great forward, but there are doubts regarding whether he's the marquee signing the club need.

Things are on ice at the moment, anyway, with the operation only likely to be looked into if a deal for Haaland proves impossible.
