The Barça president hopes to close the renewal as soon as possible
June 30 marks the final day of Lionel Messi's current contract with Barcelona. The club's president Joan Laporta has spoken about the issue from Camp Nou, with just hours to go until the deal expires.
Laporta's response was clear, short and concise. He's confident that, if not today, an agreement and an announcement of a new deal is coming soon.
"Keep calm," was Laporta's intervention on the issue, pleading patience as the club work on finalising Messi's new deal.
As of Thursday, Messi is a free agent, but everything indicates that he will sign fresh terms, as we have explained on SPORT over the last few weeks.
