Laporta reflects on Koeman sacking: I should have listened to my intuition

The Barça president has been looking back on his year in charge of the club

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was asked by Barça TV about Ronald Koeman's recent comments. The Dutch coach expressed his disappointment at the way Laporta dealt with him and said the relationship between the two was not great.

Laporta recognised that "at the end of last season I had doubts about Kooeman and I transmitted that to him. He wanted to stay on and we were in a certain context... I also thought about the figure of Koeman (at the club), we wanted to give him a chance."

The Barça chief reflected: "Time puts everything in its place and you see things that before you didn't see. Out of respect for Koeman, you value the Copa del Rey (he won).

"I saw at a certain moment that we weren't going in the right direction and I needed to make another painful decision. My conscience is clear for the respect I have shown people while always prioritising the club's interests.

"I should have listened to my intuition. Even though you can't always be guided by your intuition in life, football belongs to the world of emotions, but there's also recent, Barcelona... you have to keep many things in mind. There is no perfect decision. There's always the other side."

Pressed on Koeman's comments, Laporta preferred to turn the page: "I want to remember the hero of Wembley. I was there when he scored that goal in the 111th minute. Not he can say what he wants, but I will always remember the Wembley goal. He also had the courage to put in young players. That's also to Ronald's credit. If he is hurting now, I hope it passes."
