The club want the Frenchman to extend his stay at Camp Nou beyond next summer

Negotiations to renew Ousmane Dembele's Barcelona contract stepped up on Monday. According to Cadena COPE, before the Granada game, there was a meeting. The French forward personally attended, too, with his current terms due to expire next summer.

The cited media explain that Barça president Joan Laporta, vice president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany were all present, along with Dembele and his agent Moussa Sissoko.

The meeting served for the club to reiterate their desire to extend Dembele's deal. Talks continue, although it would be premature to say an agreement is imminent, even though the player can speak with other clubs from January.

However, following months of discussions, the operation does now seem to be advancing. The club believe in Dembele's potential and hope he can show it at Barça when he returns from injury.

Remember that he's not played this season. He is currently in the final phase of his recovery after getting injured with France at Euro 2020 in the summer. He's expected back in about six weeks.
