Barcelona would have been interested in Nagelsmann if they were after a manager

Bayern Munich have confirmed the appointment of RB Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann as their new first-team coach following the resignation of Hansi Flick.

It's a decision that also, indirectly, affects Barcelona. Barça president Joan Laporta had been scouring the market for coaches in the event that Ronald Koeman didn't continue beyond this season.

Nagelsmann was the favourite to replace the Dutch coach but the agreement with Bayern means Barça will miss out on one of Europe's most promising young managers.

According to BILD, Bayern will have to pay Leipzig €25 million in compensation for the coach, which would make him the most expensive manager of all time.

The previous record is the €15m Chelsea paid Porto for Andre Villas-Boas in 2011.

Meanwhile, Koeman's future at Barça appears secure at the moment after he led them to the Copa del Rey and forced them back into the title race.

At one point, the Catalans were over 10 points behind Atletico Madrid, but they will go top with five games to play if they beat Granada at Camp Nou on Thursday.
