The young midfielder will miss Barça's game against Getafe as a result

In this morning's press conference, Barça head coach Ronald Koeman has spoken about the situation of young midfielder Pedri, who starred in the European Championships and Olympics this summer after playing in almost every game for FC Barcelona in the 2019-20 campaign. He played more games than anyone else in top-level European football last season, causing many people to question the demands being placed on the young prodigy.

Koeman said "we've been thinking about what to do with Pedri for a while. We've decided that, after tomorrow's game [against Athletic Club], he will be given a two-week break".

He added that he "has spoken to [Spain head coach] Luis Enrique" about the matter, adding that "we are giving him a two-week break because he needs it. It's impossible to keep playing games at the frequency that he has been playing. He deserves at least a two-week break".

Pedri will therefore miss Barça's league fixture against Getafe.
