Josep Maria Bartomeu: It's impossible not to accept Valverde as coach
The president hailed the new Barcelona gaffer after he was announced on Monday
The coach will sign a two-year deal and be presented on Thursday
Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke about why Barcelona appointed Ernesto Valverde as their new manager on Monday.
"I have spoken personally with Ernesto Valverde and I told him of our decision," said the Blaugrana chief.
"He said he is very excited and very happy, that it's a great challenge to come in as head coach of Barca.
"There is time to talk about why we chose him. We know he has ability, his knowledge and his experience.
"He loves youth football and he has a special style, similar to what we do at Barca. He has philosophy similar to Barca's and trains the way we like to train."
Bartomeu insisted that some of the reasons he was chosen included his “love of youth football: and that he “uses new technology during training as well as in the games”.
The president added: “He was not the only one because in the moment Luis Enrique told us he would not continue, the search started, but it is true that Robert Fernandez only put forward one name, Valverde’s. And in the meeting we all accepted him. It’s impossible not to accept Valverde as coach.”
