Vilda is likely to be dismissed from his role on Wednesday as changes take place at the RFEF

Jorge Vilda, coach of the Spanish women's national team, could be dismissed in the next few hours, SPORT have leanred.

The acting president of the RFEF, Pedro Rocha, who is occupying the position on an interim basis, has the power to dismiss the coach and all indications are that he will end up dispensing with Vilda's services, possibly on Wednesday.

Rocha, who is also president of the Extremadura federation, travelled back to Extremadura on Tuesday but is due to return to Madrid on Wednesday.

Although Vilda received the public backing of Luis Rubiales during the extraordinary assembly held last Friday, his position is extremely weak at the RFEF.

The resignation of practically all the national team players to continue being part of the national team leaves him in a delicate position and a very complex solution.

A large part of his coaching staff also resigned shortly after Rubiales' controversial appearance on Friday.

"After everything that happened during the Women's World Cup, we wish to state that all the players who have signed this letter will not return to a call-up to the national team if the current management continues," said the players who won the World Cup.

Popular pressure, and the very complicated sporting situation, have led the RFEF to take a drastic decision with Vilda. With Rubiales gone (he will be out of the RFEF for at least 90 days, disqualified by FIFA), Vilda no longer has a safety net and the RFEF wants to look for a replacement as soon as possible.

RFEF sources have confirmed to SPORT that Rocha does not need to convene the board of directors or the assembly to make a decision on the future of the women's national team coach.

According to the federation's statutes, Rocha has the power to decide on a possible dismissal, and everything points in the same direction.

The big unknown

So, barring any surprises, Vilda will leave his role on Wednesday. His successor in the position is unknown, although Montse Tomé, who until last Friday was the team's assistant coach, has options to take over from Vilda at the helm of the team.

The situation seems to be very different for the senior men's coach, Luis de la Fuente: within the RFEF there is calm about his figure, and although he has been penalised for the image of him applauding Rubiales, the RFEF maintains the planned agenda.

De la Fuente will announce this Friday the list of those called up for the national team's next two Euro qualifiers against Georgia and Cyprus.
