The club president will take over the sporting side as well, ensuring a replacement for the outgoing Mestre isn't needed

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu will take over the responsibilities previously handled by Jordi Mestre when it comes to the sporting department. The vice president quit his role yesterday but won't be replaced.

The president decided in a meeting this morning that a new appointment wouldn't be needed. This is exactly what happened when previous directors such as Manel Arroyo, Carles Vilarrubí and Susana Monje left their respective roles.

Mestre left Barça yesterday after a series of bust-ups with the board over the direction the club was taking in the transfer market. Mestre was one of the few who backed under-fire sporting director Pep Segura.

This role isn't new to Bartomeu either as he did the same job under Sandro Rosell.
