Cruyff replaces Roberto Donadoni but will have to self-isolate for 14 days before he's able to fully take charge

Jordi Cruyff, son of legendary player and coach Johan, is the new manager of Chinese Super League side Shenzhen FC.

Cruyff replaces Italian Roberto Donadoni, who was sacked by last Tuesday after losing the first three matches of the season. In the official statement, Shenzhen FC pointed out Cruyff's "great experience" in the world of football as well as being familiar with the Chinese Super League.

"We believe he will help us progress to another level," the statement added.

Cruyff will arrive in China on Sunday but must spend 14 days in quarantine before he's able to take a hands-on approach at the club.

Jordi came through the academies at Ajax and Barcelona. He later went on to play for Manchester United (1996-2000); Celta, Alavés and Espanyol in Spain; Metalurg Donetsk (Ukraine) and Valletta (Malta).

The Dutch international retired from football in 2010. He was the director of football at AEK Larnaca until 2012 before going on to manage Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He coached Chinese side Chongqing Lifan in 2018, ensuring them a top 10 finish, and in January of 2020 was appointed as Ecuador's new technical director. He stepped down from that role after 187 days.
