Jordi Alba leaves Barca, giving up a lot of money and with no concrete destination

Jordi Alba has decided to bring his successful career at FC Barcelona to an end. Recent times have not been easy for the player from L'Hospitalet, a die-hard Cule who has been attacked, in many cases, without any knowledge of the facts. 

The full-back has accepted his secondary role in the team, and by playing his role as captain with pleasure and professionalism, he has been a fundamental support for the youngsters, especially Alejandro Balde, whose development he has been very close to, despite being direct competition for a place.

The decision

The decision not to terminate his contract, which was due to expire in 2024, was taken by the player with his family in the last few hours, but it has also been maturing as a result of the events that have been taking place. He has earned the right to decide.

If Jordi Alba has been something all his life, he is a die-hard Culé and he is forgiving himself large sums of money. He already deferred in his day what he should receive, because the club asked him to do so and now he has another gesture, if possible even more important. 

Now, as SPORT has been able to learn, he is giving up half of what he had agreed by contract to receive from the club and the totality of the prizes that are destined to the squad depending on the objectives. It should not be forgotten that this season Barça have won LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup.

The options

Moreover, he is leaving without a specific destination, although he has not been short of offers in the past and will not be short of them now. His first intention would be to continue playing at the highest level. Last season, the club 'invited' him at the last minute to go to Inter Milan, which did not please the player and his entourage. 

But the northern Italian club, Champions League finalists, have always followed Jordi Alba very closely, as have Atlético Madrid, who could reactivate their interest and even more so if Yannick Carrasco ends up signing for Barça.

The Premier League is also attractive and Manchester United is another name to take into account and with whom his agents are well connected. Finally, there is the option of Saudi Arabia, to which he is reluctant to take in principle due to family reasons and the fact that he is expecting his third child in July, but which could have the added value of playing with former teammates and great friends.
