Joao Cancelo could take stance to force Barca move

Barça have given Joao Cancelo and his agent Jorge Mendes another chance to unblock the option for the player to come on loan for a season. The Blaugrana have set a deadline and a time limit to close the deal, but City are still tough to deal with on his departure. Cancelo is thinking of making a stance and not listening to other offers so that everything ends well.

The Blaugrana reactivated the Cancelo option last Thursday once it became clear that Villarreal were not going to negotiate for Foyth. As we revealed, Mateu Alemany travelled to Villarreal to discuss the issue and came away with the assurance that he was non-transferable. From here he picked up the gauntlet from Jorge Mendes, who had assured that he could now unblock Cancelo's exit.

Mendes had the plan to attack the operation in the last week of the market and take advantage of City's urgency to get rid of the player, but Barça do not want to rush things because they need financial margin in case they have to sign an alternative. And Mendes has already gone all out to get the player out of Manchester with the help of the player himself.

Barca could only pay a minimal loan fee, which would be subtracted from the player's wage bill. The agreement should work, but in Manchester they remember that they charged Bayern 5 million euros for half a season, so the loan should be ten million plus the fee, something that Barça do not intend to pay. The player's agent is trying to reach a favourable agreement and they are going to pull harder to make it happen.

The main problem is that City have other proposals for the player and do not want to lower any demands, but if Cancelo stands up and says he only wants to go to Barça, the Manchester club will have to make a decision. And they expect City to give the OK next week. For now he has not done so.
