Joan Laporta’s comments that hint at Pique and Busquets annoyance
The president pointed out that some players did not lower their salary
The salary level is still a problem for Barca. They expected to cut it last season to 470m euros but its at 518m, after a cut of more than 150m. This season it will be 656 million after the signings made in the summer.
Joan Laporta said, at the AGM: “We tried with various players (to make pay cuts), but it could not be and we had to put up 10m as a guarantee. We accept it sportingly.”
That was to get the Jules Kounde deal over the line, with Pique and Busquets not accepting pay cuts.
Alemany agreed with the point. “When we arrived, there were contracts out of the normal market range that stopped us registering players and made it hard to sell others. 75 percent of those contracts no longer exist and the aim is to get rid of these salaries.”
